Restructuring of a gardening type manufacturing process affected by the pandemic applying the DMAIC methodology

The garden-type manufacturing company began in golf equipment in 1919, with five helical cutting units attached to a tractor to maintain the fairways of the Minikahda Club of Minneapolis. By carrying out excellent quality in its products, it has become first in quality, making it one of the world's leading suppliers of turf maintenance equipment and irrigation technologies for the golf sector. Given the magnitude of the crisis of the COVID 19 pandemic, the systematic challenge changed the focus to give continuity to the activities in manufacturing companies [1]. In this case in the gardening area and seek recovery through restructuring in the systems, operational activities, redesign of work flows to guarantee the growing demand for products, preparing ourselves with safety and hygiene procedures and protocols so that the company can make the recession short, persevering in the generation of jobs to reduce the impact of the crisis and improve resilience. The application of the DMAIC methodology in the Appliance area helped us to evaluate the behavior of production processes, defects generated within the same area. For this reason, production was readapted, attending only to specific emergencies or deficiencies of the client and we are guided by companies to manage good practices in terms of restructuring in response to COVID -19, in accordance with international labor standards [2].
