In the automotive industry, engineering changes in the manufacturing process are both unexpected and necessary. Improving a product is essential to guarantee the quality standards established by the customer, as well as the required processes. Effective management of engineering changes within the supply chain requires clear communication through a common language. The interpretation and translation of information to create material lists and product drawings are typically reliant on manual interactions between customer information and the engineering change management system used by some manufacturing companies.
This article focuses on analyzing the information development process for managing new products and engineering changes, identifying the factors involved in their development. These factors are explained and illustrated, with improvement proposals offered for each. Continuous improvement is a repetitive process aimed at enhancing the ability to meet customer requirements, company standards, and the processes established for developing information.
