The rapid growth of the global population, coupled with industrial development and recent technological advancements, is driving an increasing demand for electrical energy. Currently, this energy is primarily supplied by fossil fuels, but their consumption leads to environmental degradation and pollution. In contrast, new hybrid systems based on renewable resources, such as solar energy and hydraulic power, present alternative solutions.
This research aims to assess the technological and geographic feasibility of generating electrical energy from photovoltaic cells and mechanical batteries along the Mexico/U.S. border, specifically in the Ciudad Juárez/El Paso area. A simulation model was developed using EXTEND software to evaluate the electrical energy generated from photovoltaic cells and mechanical batteries working as a hybrid system, designed to supply the electricity demand of a typical Mexican household. Additionally, mathematical calculations based on meteorological data and commercial specifications for photovoltaic cells and hydraulic generators were carried out. The model can perform various functions, including comparisons, predictions, and evaluations.
