Perceptions and attitudes of a segment of the population in centro, Tabasco regarding the Maya train

Abstract

This article focuses on analyzing the perceptions, expectations, and preferences of a segment of the population in Centro, Tabasco, regarding the Tren Maya project in Mexico.

To do so, a survey was conducted that gathered information from a large group of participants. The obtained results provide a detailed insight into various aspects related to the Tren Maya. Regarding the motivations to use the Tren Maya, it was observed that most of the surveyed individuals expressed their interest in visiting tourist destinations in the region and having a unique travel experience. It was also identified that some people would consider using the train to visit family or friends in other cities, as well as for business trips. This demonstrates the diversity of motivations that drive the population to use the service.

Regarding travel preferences, it was found that the most desired time of the year to travel on the Tren Maya is during the summer vacations. Additionally, a notable interest was shown in visiting destinations such as Tulum, Palenque, and Chichen Itza, which are renowned for their archaeological and cultural richness. In terms of the expected travel experience, the respondents expressed their desire for it to be enjoyable and unforgettable, highlighting the importance of connectivity with tourist destinations. Moreover, the estimated frequency of use varied from once a year to two or three times a year. It was observed that there is a need to disseminate more information among the population about the Tren Maya. While some respondents had knowledge of the existence of visitor attention centers and the presence of six hotels in the project, a lack of knowledge regarding the inauguration date of the Tren Maya was detected. In this regard, the importance of implementing dissemination strategies that effectively inform the population about these aspects is emphasized. In conclusion, this article highlights the high interest of the population in using the Tren Maya and explores the motivations, preferences, and expectations related to this means of transportation. The obtained results provide valuable information for the planning and promotion of the project, as well as for the design of communication strategies that help meet the needs and expectations of the population.
