Design of augmented reality mobile app for Android platform applied to security and surveillance

Abstract

The augmented reality mobile app for security and surveillance is a prototype to be implemented for the company Combustibles y Derivados BELAR S.A. de C.V. (CODEBSA) and its objective is to perform patrols using an Android cell phone, through a virtual QR code, as well as the registration of observations at the time of such activity.

For the design of this prototype we suggest the use of technologies such as: Spring boot 3.2 for data management using the MVC model (model, view, controller); Apache Tomcat 10, for the publication of the REST API service; MariaDB as database; Unreal Engine 5 for the interface of the mobile App. Similarly, software tools, Dia and Evolus Pencil, which are programs for drawing structured diagrams (Dia, 2024), and the design of use cases respectively (Evolus, 2024), were used.

With the augmented reality App, it provides a safe and reliable way to conduct tours through virtual QR codes and using emerging technologies such as augmented reality and Android smartphones. It also, facilitates the planning of the supervision and surveillance program, the management of client portfolios, the control of security guards, the management of areas and spaces of supervision as well as the registration of observations at the time of a patrol.

The aforementioned allows savings in the acquisition of printing equipment, paper or other devices or Tags existing in the market for patrol activities.

Author Biographies

Pedro Jerónimo García , National Technological Institute of Mexico

Master's student in Information Technology at the National Technological Institute of Mexico, Villahermosa Campus (2025), he holds a degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the Higher Technological Institute of Macuspana (2009). He is currently systems manager at the Tabasco State Ministry of Education, in the Information and Communication Technologies department. He has experience in web, mobile and database application development in the educational field and with oil companies.

José Ángel Jesús Magaña , National Technological Institute of Mexico

He received his degree in Computer Systems Engineering (Mérida, Yucatán, 1994) and his Master's degree in Computer Systems (Mérida, Yucatán, 2005) from the Mérida Institute of Technology; his PhD in Technological Development from the Descartes University of Science and Technology (Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, 2019). He is currently a lecturer in the Department of Systems and Computing and Software Development Coordinator at the Computer Centre of the National Technological Institute of Mexico, Villahermosa campus.

José Manuel Gómez Zea, National Technological Institute of Mexico

Doctor in Technological Development from the Descartes University of Science and Technology (UCyTD, 2019), he holds a Master's Degree in Computer Technologies from the Mundo Maya University (UMMA, 2004) and a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from the Technological Institute of Villahermosa (ITVH, 2001). He works as a lecturer at the National Technological Institute of Mexico (TECNM) Villahermosa campus in the Department of Systems and Computing. His field of research is Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Industrial Control Applications through the Internet of Things.

Alejandro Hernández Cadena, National Technological Institute of Mexico

Doctor in Technological Development from the Descartes University of Science and Technology (Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, 2020), Master in Computer Technologies from the Mundo Maya University, and Bachelor in Computer Science from the Technological Institute of Villahermosa. He currently works as a lecturer in the Systems department at the Technological Institute of Villahermosa, where he teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses. He is also a member of the Postgraduate Council at the same institute. His main areas of interest include: web programming, databases, Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, mechatronics, development with ESP32, process reengineering, and artificial intelligence.

Teresa de Jesús Javier Baeza, National Technological Institute of Mexico

Teresa de Jesús Javier Baeza holds a PhD in Education from the Centro Internacional de Posgrado A.C., a Master's degree in Information Technology Management from TecMilenio University (2008), and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the Instituto Tecnológico de Villahermosa (1998). She currently works as a lecturer in the Systems Department at the Villahermosa Institute of Technology, where she teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Her main areas of interest are research, the Internet of Things (IoT), process engineering, and artificial intelligence.
