Policy on the publication of special issues or supplements

1. Definition and Purpose
Special issues or supplements are edited publications designed to compile original scientific contributions on a specific topic, an emerging research area, or a relevant academic event. These publications are distinct from conference proceedings, which follow an independent editorial process and are not governed by this policy.

2. Conditions for Publication
The approval of a special issue in IPSUMTEC is subject to the proposal meeting the criteria of thematic relevance, scientific quality, and alignment with the journal's editorial scope, as established in this policy.

3. Structure and Length
The structure, length, and organization of the special issue will be determined by the Editorial Team, ensuring consistency with the journal's standard editorial guidelines.

4. Ad Hoc Editorial Team
The Editorial Team may appoint an ad hoc team—composed of guest editors with recognized expertise in the issue's subject matter—responsible for coordinating the editorial process, the call for manuscripts, and the peer review process, under the supervision of the Editor-in-Chief.

5. Minimum Number of Articles
To ensure the scientific and editorial viability of the issue, a minimum of eight (8) original articles is required for each special issue or supplement.

6. Evaluation Process
All manuscripts included in a special issue will undergo the same double-blind peer review process applied to articles in regular issues, ensuring the scientific rigor and integrity required by international indexing standards (Web of Science, Scopus).
