Abstract

The approach of this research tries to expose the importance of analyzing and detecting the Sick Building Syndrome (SEE) through a case study in a building of a higher education institution, it is a quantitative research, not experimental, it is mainly based on observation in its natural context for ESS detection.

The assumption is, if the symptomatology has a positive influence on the sick building síndrome of the occupants of the building of this institution, the research subjects were the 42 frequent users. Because the data were collected in a single moment, this research is classified as cross-sectional. The survey was the data collection technique and the instrument was the questionnaire of the Spanish standard NTP 290. The SEE is not exclusive to old or new buildings, any building,  including a house, may have factors that affect the health and comfort of the occupants. It was observed that in the control of the environment the noise, temperature and odors exceed the limits allowed by the 20% rule, in addition to that in the ocular symptoms a blurred visión was observed above the allowed limit, in the symptoms of throat it was found that it manifested dryness in it above the allowed levels. With regard to painful symptoms, back pain was present and in general disorders, headache, these two were above the established prevalence of 20% to detect ESS. It is recommended to place partitions in each area of the building to avoid noise in the conversations between each department and office area. It is also recommended to expand the lighting study to avoid blurred vision in your work area under NOM-025-STPS-2008.
