Abstract

The objective of this study was to characterize and evaluate the pathogenic potential of an entomopathogenic fungus (EPF) native of Oaxaca, México, on larvae of the white grub Phyllophaga spp. The isolation of EPF was carried out in the nature site Ángel de Oro of the Valle de Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico. The characteristics of the macroscopic and microscopic structures on the PDA and MALTA culture media were determined. Then, the percentage of mortality of Phyllophaga spp. larvae due to the application of the HEP was determined. The growth of the fungal colony on PDA and MALTA did not show a statistically significant difference (Tukey, α=0.01). The macro and micro morphological characteristics of the isolate indicate that it is Beauveria spp. According to the results of the infectivity evaluation, the mortality caused by this EPF was less than 45 % in the three treatments and the Tukey statistical test (α =0.05) showed that there is no significant statistical difference between the different treatments.
