Identification and analysis of the variables that impact on the learning of mathematics in new students of the ITZ

Abstract

This research focuses on determining the variables that impact the learning of mathematics at the Zacatepec Technological Institute (ITZ). New students of the Industrial engineering educational program were considered, specifically those who were taking the subject of Differential Calculus. The methodology used was to apply the following three instruments: a diagnostic exam, questionnaires to repeating students, about the knowledge learned in the semester they did not pass and, finally, a satisfaction survey. It is concluded that there are two relevant factors in the failure of students, the lack of study habits in them, as well as the teaching style of each teacher. Finally, there is a third factor that also affects the failure and desertion of students, which is the lack of sufficient economic resources to continue their studies without worries.
