Abstract

The present article presents the development of a chatbot designed for TecNM Instituto Tecnológico de Zacatepec, trained with relevant institutional data to provide agile and natural user assistance on the university's website. The proposed chatbot utilizes Large Language Model (LLM) technology along with advanced information retrieval algorithms. The system aims to reduce the administrative burden on staff and offer users an interactive and efficient experience. The result is a computational system that receives user queries; the BM25 retrieval algorithm searches through a corpus of institution-related data, and finally, the LLM model (GEMMA) processes the context, generating an appropriate response to the request.

Author Biographies

Carlos Pérez Calderón , National Technological Institute of Mexico

Computer Systems Engineer graduated from TECNM/Zacatepec Institute of Technology, specialising in business web development. Currently working at the UNAM Institute of Biotechnology. His experience focuses on server management for web applications, web system development and maintenance, and process automation with artificial intelligence. His main interest is software development and artificial intelligence.

 

Luis Ángel Vázquez Carrillo , National Technological Institute of Mexico

Computer Systems Engineer graduated from the National Technological Institute of Mexico, Zacatepec campus, specialising in enterprise web development. His experience focuses on back-end development, building web systems and RESTful APIs. He is proficient in back-end technologies such as Python and Java. His main interest is optimisation and the development of efficient web software.

Luis José Muñiz-Rascado , National Technological Institute of Mexico

Dr. Eugenio César Velázquez Santana is a full-time professor at the Zacatepec Institute of Technology. He has been the coordinator of the Doctorate in Engineering Sciences programme and head of the Systems and Computing Department. His academic output includes numerous publications in specialist journals and conferences. He is currently president of the Master's Council in Artificial Intelligence at the same institute.

Eugenio César Velázquez-Santana , National Technological Institute of Mexico

He completed his engineering studies and master's degree at TecNM/Instituto Tecnológico de Zacatepec (ITZ). Since 2013, he has been a professor in the Department of Systems and Computing at ITZ. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science at TecNM/CENIDET, under the supervision of Dr. Noé Alejandro Castro Sánchez.

Noé Alejandro Castro-Sánchez, National Technological Institute of Mexico

He completed his master's and doctoral studies at the Computing Research Centre of the National Polytechnic Institute, specialising in the field of Artificial Intelligence, particularly Natural Language Processing. He is a member of the National System of Researchers, a member of the Mexican Society of Artificial Intelligence (SMIA), and works as a research professor at the National Centre for Research and Technological Development (CENIDET) of the National Technological Institute of Mexico.
