Integration of the value chain of the artisanal fishing of skipjackas a bioeconomic agent in Puerto Ángel

Abstract

This research is focused on the integration of the value chain of artisanal barrilete fishing as a bioeconomic agent in Puerto Ángel, from identifying the sale price to generating added value.Currently, addressing the concept of bioeconomy involves identifying, analyzing, and understanding opportunities and challenges for rural, agricultural, and agro-industrial development worldwide, serving as a framework for development and innovation policies. Thus, artisanal fishing and aquaculture have been identified as economic activities that significantly contribute to food security, sustainable development, cultural preservation, and environmental protection.Furthermore, the bioeconomic contribution of artisanal barrilete fishing (E. Lineatus) in Puerto Ángel is analyzed, as an economy based on generating consumption and producing goods and services derived from the direct use and sustainable transformation of biological resources. The “Instituto Tecnológico de Pochutla” participates as a managing agent for the development of marketing practices, adapting and identifying the value chain for the final product.Through the students in the dual education program, the institute conducted relevant activities to propose to the “Cooperativa Pesquera Punta Sacrifico S.C. de R.L”. The management of human capital, technological development, and marketing have been achieved, leading to a value-added proposition for the catch.Significant progress has been made, valuing the product and positioning it in the market. This includes creating diagrams for processing and packaging, as well as innovative practices for marketing, such as vacuum packaging and even creating fish burgers. This has led to product valuation and sparked interest among coastal fishermen to join the Cooperative and/or seek guidance from the students of the “Instituto Tecnológico de Pochutla”.
