Analysis of the dribbling action in soccer by means of 2D video

Abstract

Objective, The purpose of the analysis was to examine the quantitative and qualitative particularities when executing the technical gesture of dribbling. The method. It is based on a case study with a 32-year-old soccer player who played in the 3rd division in Mexico. Biomechanical Anthropometry measurement was used. Two videos of the dribbling test were filmed, one in the midsagittal plane and the other in the coronal plane. The analysis of the 3D action was carried out using two cell phone cameras each fixed on a tripod. The 2D review was carried out using Kinovea 0.9.15 software, from which the quantitative data of the total travel time and by segments were obtained. Regarding the qualitative data, a movement phase matrix was created that explains the joint movements of the investigated planes. The results showed that the total time of the dribble test was nine seconds and twenty milliseconds. The shortest time per segment was eighty milliseconds, and a total of 12 contacts with the ball were recorded. Regarding the qualitative part, it was observed that the contact of the ball was also made with the instep segment. Regarding step length, two lengths were recorded, one of 84 cm and another of 90 cm, which were noted as critical events in the matrix in the coronal plane. Conclusions Qualitative information on the dribbling action was provided through the Kinovea software. The test was reviewed in slow motion, frame by frame to perceive the particularities in detail and thus extract the data. The use of the software allowed a thorough analysis of the technique used during dribbling.
