Abstract

In this research paper, an "Ad-Hoc" sizing method for lithium-ion (Li-Ion) batteries for electric vehicles is proposed. The method considers the mechanical parameters of the vehicle, as well as its driving profile to meet the performance expected by it. A tool was developed in MATLAB for the estimation of the power and energy requirement for the electric vehicle (EV) that allows specifying the capacity of the electric motor and sizing the battery bank to meet a specific range of the same. Therefore, the results of this research can serve as a guide for the specification of electromechanical components of the electric vehicle, as well as the final size of the battery bank, so that they deliver the required energy according to the expected performance of the selected vehicle and its driving profile.
