Abstract

The purpose of this research was to a training model in management skills for middle and senior managers of the Milpa Alta Technological Institute (ITMA) that allows them to improve their performance and contribute to the fulfillment of the mission and achieve the institutional vision. The model was based on competency-based management, specifically on the behaviorist approach that is interested in the observable behaviors or behaviors of people in the performance of their position or profession.

To define the competencies, documentary research and the preparation of a survey that was applied to ITMA's middle and senior management through a Training Needs Diagnosis (DNC) were used.

Based on the results of the survey and the work with a group of experts, the competencies and their levels were specified, the training model for managerial competencies was built, a training program for the acquisition and development of competencies was proposed, and developed the training units (courses).

In order to evaluate the impact of the training program, a monitoring and evaluation strategy was proposed that would allow obtaining useful information to analyze the changes achieved from the training and development of management skills.

Once the training model in management skills has been built and its implementation carried out through the design of the training program, it is concluded that training and development by management skills is a process that helps to improve the qualification of middle and senior management, but that requires the correct definition of the competences, the description of their levels, the generation of a model, the development of a training program, its implementation through training units and monitoring and evaluation that allows determining the impact on results.
