Application of the criticality model in the maintenance of equipment in a palm oil extraction plant (industrial processes)

Abstract

This work presents an information system for preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance based on data obtained from a Criticality Matrix. The parameters of this matrix were established using the history of maintenance interventions and visual and auditory observations of equipment such as mechanical scales, winches, hoppers, and sterilizers. Criticality analysis identified trends for preventive and predictive maintenance for the pairs “Hoppers, Sterilizers” and “Mechanical scales, Winches,” respectively. This led to the development of a preventive maintenance planning system for the hoppers and sterilizers, which involved the design, elaboration, and data input into the information system. The system facilitates the planned control of maintenance and production department actions. The benefits generated include increased equipment availability and safety, improved product quality, better record-keeping with real-time data on machinery conditions, enhanced maintenance capacity in both quantity and quality, optimized repair part handling, and improved equipment design, leading to reduced maintenance costs.
